I Can't Believe It

Oh my gosh! I can't believe that the Tubbster is gone. If you didn't know, Orlando Smith is on his way to the University of Minnesota for the head coaching position. I am literally in shock right now. My head may explode a la dude from The Running Man. It's almost like the people of California when they found out Arnie was their governor. I can't believe. People at work are reacting as if they just announced they caught Osama bin Laden. What do you think will happen next?

Go Salukis!

  • Everyone around Lex has been saying Callapari from Memphis, Ricky P. and Billy D. Report this morning on Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio said the AD at Minnesota was told by Tubby 6 weeks ago he would leave UK. He is supposed to be on the show at 9:06 am this morning.

  • These were serious nods and not just wishes. I honestly would rather have a young decent mid-major coach to head Kentucky. I really would like to see John Pelfrey from Southern Alabama.

  • When word of Tubby leaving broke my office was celebrating like UK had just won the national championship. Everyone I have talked to is happy with the move. I think it should be Billy D’s job to turn down. If he does I’d go after Pearl from Tennessee. He plays the up-tempo style UK fans love and is a showman who will promote the program on radio and TV every chance he gets.

  • I may get shot down quick on this one, but I think Tubby's a classy coach. Maybe he can't recruit. Maybe he doesn't fit UK style (I miss Ron Mercer and Derek Anderson), but I think he's a good man. I wish him luck with the Golden Gophers.

But maybe I'm just feeling senitmental because the Salukis played hard and lost last night. They got the shaft on a missed goaltending call and on two shot clock violation calls. Kansas should be embarassed that a lower-ranked mid-major gave them that much trouble.

  • Tubby is definitely a classy coach when it comes to dealing with an unrealistic fanbase, the media, and the officials. However, when you are having issues that you can't resolve with your team, you have to admit you are having problems and accept help given.

After last year's NCAA tournament the admin gave him a chance to right the ship with personnel changes, with a hope to improve recruiting. All he did was hire a stength coach? This year the admin pretty much told him "your staff or you". Tubby has obviously said, Welllllll, we'll see ya later." Like old Wes Omohundro used to say.

SIU can sing the Jerry Reed song "Goldmine".

    "She got the goldmine,
    And I got the shaft.
They split our stuff right down the middle,
And gave her the bigger half."

  • A buddy at work just told me about it a while ago. Dang, and I just bought another 360. I guess I will wait a couple of years so Microsoft can make a new gaming system.
